During the event Crunchyroll Expo 2022 A new promotional image has been revealed for the third season of the anime adaptation of the light novels written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Seira Minami, Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rise of the Shield Hero). The press release does not mention a planned release date.
Aneko Yusagi The publication of the novels began Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari through independent service Shousetsuka ni Narouand later the publisher Kadokawa began its paper publication with illustrations by Seira Minami. Summary of Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
The Four Heroes are a group of ordinary men from modern Japan summoned to the realm of Melromarc to become his saviors. Melromarc is a land ravaged by the waves of cataclysm that repeatedly ravaged the land and brought calamity upon its citizens for centuries. The four heroes are each given a sword, spear, bow and shield to defeat these waves. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, suffers from the curse of being the "Hero of the Shield". Armed with only a measly shield, Naofumi is despised and ridiculed by his fellow heroes and the people of the kingdom for his weak offensive skills and lackluster personality.
When the heroes have resources and comrades to train with, Naofumi sets out with Malty Melromarc, the only person willing to train by his side. However, he is soon betrayed by her and falsely accused of taking advantage of her. Naofumi is then severely discriminated against and hated by the people of Melromarc for something he didn't do. With a raging storm of pain and distrust in his heart, Naofumi begins his journey to strengthen himself and his reputation. Later, however, the difficulty of being alone sets in, so Naofumi buys a dying half-human slave named Raphtalia to accompany him on his travels. As the waves close in on the kingdom, Naofumi and Raphtalia must fight for the kingdom's survival and protect the people of Melromarc from their bleak future.
