On October 1, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the Ghibli Museum was celebrated and on this occasion a giant balloon was created, which is dedicated to the mascot par excellence Studio Ghibli, the magical Totoro, which also gives its name to one of the most important and well-known films in Japanese animation.

The 1,300 lucky visitors to Mitaka, a city west of Tokyo where the museum is located, who received the official invitation to attend the event, were able to see the gigantic Totoro up close. approx. 5.3 meters high and 3.5 meters wide. Fortunately, however, a video has been uploaded to the museum’s official YouTube channel showing the preparation of the balloon and its placement near the entrance to the building.

The Twitter fan page @ghibli_world then published the post with the photos, which you can find at the end of the news, where Totoro appears immortalized from different anglesthat also allow us to understand its dimensions in relation to the building. A beautiful and unique tribute to one of Studio Ghibli’s most iconic characters and a unique way to celebrate an important milestone.
