Until the release of Star Wars Visions, a series produced by several Japanese animation studios, which will hit the Disney + platform on September 22nd, it might be interesting to see the events of Star Wars: Infinities, a comic mini-series that took up in part what appeared in the films in the original trilogy.
From 2001 to 2004 the publisher was Dark Horse Comics has published 4 volumes mainly about the dramatic story of Princess Leia Organa. In the first part, written by Chris Warner and drawn by Drew Johnson, Luke Skywalker was unable to hit the Death Star’s sweet spot as he did in the movie A New Hope, leaving the base fully functional. This enabled the empire to fight back, attack and attack the rebels Capture of Leia.
When Luke completes his Jedi training on Dagobah, Leia, deprived of her planet, friends, and power, becomes a supporter and spokeswoman for the Empire Apprentice of Darth Vader. Luke, Han Solo, Yoda and Chewbacca head to Coruscant to face the Sith Lords, and the band ends in a spectacular and sad duel between the two brothers.
In the second volume by Dave Land and Davide Fabbri, Hans Tauntaun dies before the pilot can reach Luke in the icy wasteland of the planet Hoth. Only he will arrive in time to hear the last words of his friend relating to the planet Dagobah. To honor Luke’s memory, Han decides to become a Jedi, a choice for which he will be ridiculed by others and Yoda will eventually take Leia as his student.
The third installment begins with Jabba the Hutt hitting C3-PO hard, causing the droid to break, ending negotiations with Boushh. Leia is then forced to abandon Han’s rescue plan for the moment, and Hutt himself walks away with the plate. The protagonists will be able to recover Han, but he will remain blind due to an accidental blaster shot that struck the plate during the final battle.
Leia and Luke then go to the second Death Star and try to stop Vader. Convinced of his sons, the Sith takes off his helmet and decides to return to the Light Side of the Force and show off for the first time an all white version of his armor, which at the time attracted the attention of many readers and enthusiasts, and suggested quite a number of Anakin Skywalker.
The stories presented in Infinities are original, well designed, with various fan service moments, and could fit into them perfectly a series dedicated to the expanded and alternate universe, similar to the upcoming Star Wars Visions. After all, the Star Wars universe is full of what-if stories, especially considering how many novels were written before the new canon was introduced with the latest Disney-produced trilogy.
