After years apart, Nick Spencer’s Spider-Man run eventually led to a rapprochement between Peter Parker and Mary Jane, but with the release of the cover of the second issue of the Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, it seems so Peter and MJ’s relationship is on the verge of failing again.
In 1987, The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 featured the story “The Wedding!” he saw Peter Parker and Mary Jane finally get married. For years in the comics, Peter was a married man until the 2007 story One More Day called off Peter’s wedding, giving us yet another bachelor Spider-Man.
Since then, Peter and MJ have hit it off but are essentially single. That was until 2018, when the screenwriter Nick Spencer opened up about the reunion of the two lovers. Reunion that might be short-lived judging by the cover of Amazing Spider-Man 2 drawn by John Romita Jr sees Peter and MJ turning their backs on each other in the rain.
On the other hand, the Spider-Man relaunch synopsis written by Zeb Wells promised to tell just a Peter Parker, at odds with the Avengers, with Aunt May, and judging by this cover, with Mary Jane too.
Amazing Spider-Man #2, by Wells and Romita Jr., will be released in the United States in April. In addition to the Romita Jr. cover (available below), there are also three cover variants by Derrick Chew, InHyuk Lee, and Nicoletta Baldari. Speaking of alternative covers, the Amazing Spider Man relaunch is accompanied by fourteen variants.
