When we talk about the powers of Spider-Man, our thoughts can only go to his ability to climb walls, his superhuman agility and of course his spider senses. But there’s an equally important Spider-Man force which is often ignored: its strength. How strong is Spider-Man then?
Officially, Peter Parker obtained, among other things, one after he was bitten by the radioactive spider Force proportional to that of a spider. More specifically, Spider-Man can safely lift weights of up to 10 tons, which is the equivalent of an adult Indian elephant.
In fact, the strength of Spider-Man has been evident from its earliest appearances more importantly. The Amazing Spider-Man # 33 tells one of the most iconic stories of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s run: The web weaver is trapped under a giant machine and cannot move. Aunt May is lying in a hospital bed waiting for a serum that Peter, blocked by the machine, cannot bring her. At the thought of his dying aunt, Spider-Man manages to deal with all his inner strength and manages to lift the machine and save Aunt May.
Throughout its history, Spider-Man has also received several temporary power-ups. An example of this is the famous black costume, which, in addition to increasing its strength, also had the advantage of organic cobwebs and the ability to transform into civilian clothes. What a shame then turned out to be an alien symbiote and that through association with Eddie Brock, he gave birth to one of Spider-Man’s most famous enemies: Venom.
Another example is told in The Other, a story told in the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Marvel Knights Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man titles between 2005 and 2006. In The Other, Spider-Man is killed by Morlun. After he was taken to the morgue, Peter became Parker’s corpse is owned by The Other, a semi-divine entity that gives Spider-Man new and heightened powers, including the ability to see in the dark and retractable spikes protruding from the wrists. Peter then will step into the powers of The Other after the Rekton that took place in One More Day, a story that should be an inspiration for Spider-Man’s next cinematic adventure (it is possible, however, that the comic book, the Spider Man No Way inspired home is different).
It is therefore difficult to precisely define the strength of Spider-Man. This is also because because of his strong morale, which prevents him from killing his enemies, he Peter always holds back. However, there have been cases in which we have been able to watch a Spider-Man unrestrained: For example in the Back in Black saga, in which Kingpin hires a sniper who shoots Aunt May and sends her into a coma. In the ensuing confrontation, a desperate Peter slaughters the Kingpin without difficulty and finally promises him that the King of Crime will follow her to the grave in the event of Aunt May’s death.
In support of what has been said, there is Superior Spider-Man. In this series, Doctor Octopus manages to take possession of Peter Parker’s body and decides to become a superior Spider-Man. In one of his very first fights Peter / Otto comes to loosen Scorpio’s jaw suddenly when he noticed Peter holding back all the years they had fought.
How does Spider-Man compare to other Marvel characters? At 10 standard tons of Spider-Man it is already way up Superheroes like Captain America and Black Panther. However, given what we’ve seen, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Spider-Man versus heavyweights like Thor or Thanos. Meanwhile, Spider-Man will soon have to face five opponents in the cinema. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man can’t fight alone, however: New details about Garfield and Maguire have surfaced in Spider Man No Way Home.
