ONE PIECE continues to sell, Demon Slayer has been a success on all fronts, the explosion of Jujutsu Kaisen happened thanks to the anime by Studio MAPPA, and there is no shortage of excellent sales of all other manga. Shueisha, a publisher that publishes Weekly Shonen Jump and many others, had a record year.

In a financial report that takes into account everything that happened in the fiscal year June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021, Shueisha released its financial data with total revenue of 201.014 billion yen, consisting of:

  • Magazines: 81.701 billion yen
  • Books: 17.8 trillion yen
  • Advertising: 7.873 billion yen
  • Commercial Income: 93.539 billion yen; 44.909 billion yen of it digital

Net that Shueisha earned 45.718 billion yen (around € 355 million) in the period under review. All categories increased significantly in percentage terms, with the exception of the advertising sector, which recorded a decrease of 18%. the Magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump still play a very important role, although their release gets smaller and smaller over time.

In general, the proceeds have more than doubled compared to the previous yearwhere Shueisha posted a net profit of nearly 21 billion yen. This confirms an upward trend for the publisher, as can be seen from the following graphic, even if these peaks will probably be difficult to achieve again in the following years. Unless the new anime by Weekly Shonen Jump does not intensify sales of the volumes in an extraordinary way.
