A new advertisement dedicated to ONE PIECE has appeared in some of the major Japanese newspapers including Asahi Shimbun, Yomiuri Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun to commemorate the release of Volume 100 of the series. The insert in question, approved by Shueisha, includes a photo of Eiichiro Oda with the words “The story is in its final stages”.
In August 2019, Eiichiro Oda announced that he wanted to end the story of ONE PIECE within five years and one year later, in summer 2020, the series has officially entered the final narrative arc. If you consider that even the editor of the manga had confirmed several times that ONE PIECE will be completed by 2025, the news in the Japanese newspapers is far from unexpected, but the timing is still surprising, which could even point to an early conclusion, perhaps in 2023/24.
Either way, Eiichiro Oda manga will keep us company for a while, and today’s announcement could mean that the next fight between Luffy and Kaido is not far away. The manga will return on September 12th with Chapter 1024, and most likely there will be important advances on the ONE PIECE research front after the Wano saga ends.
