How does the relationship between the original work and a film inspired by it work? In a previous interview, the director of the current anime adaptation of ONE PIECETatsuya Nagamine has a particular curiosity about the sensei and characters who surround the pictures in the series.
On the occasion of the film ONE PIECE Film Z, the director of the Wano saga made it clear that he was reprimanded by Oda for the idea of a Backstory too shallow for Z.and invited him to reconstruct the character's character based on "his story". In fact, the sensei's words match a January 2018 interview in which the sensei revealed:
""[...]However, there are a few characters I want to dig deeper into. For example, I would be interested in doing the Marines. I am sure I can draw a wonderful story for Garp. I also want to fish out the relationships between him and Akainu, Aokiji, Smoker, Hina, Coby who joined the Navy one by one, and even Cipher Pol and Roger. I also want to focus on the Revolutionary Army, especially Dragon. Why do you want a revolution, what do you believe in? How did you meet The story of Luffy's birth would also be interesting. Some of these stories would also be very serious. "
It is therefore clear from his words how Oda has it in mind numerous stories for the characters of ONE PIECEsome of which are only useful for their characterization. Even so, it would be interesting to delve into some of the stories in special spin-off comics. And you, what do you think of his words instead? Let us know with a comment below, but not before you check out the episode 936 teaser.
Nagamine submitted a simple backstory from Z that his wife was killed. Oda complained that it was too short. Oda said he was thinking of creating detailed backstories for "ALL" of the major characters. I wonder if it means he can draw a lot of spin-off manga if he wants to 😍 #oldoda pic.twitter.com/QVTPF7LVk9
