Netflix has signed a long-term deal with Digital Frontier, the award-winning Tokyo-based Japanese studio specializing in the use of 3DCG animation technology. The two sides will have worked together for “many years” with the studio poised to take care of the production of most of the US streaming giant’s new original anime.
Netflix and Digital Frontier just announced the partnership today, Tuesday, March 16, 2021. Apparently, the first project of this agreement was Alice’s live action in Bordeland, which was distributed on the platform on December 10th. for which the studio took care of all graphic effects, Including CGI.
Digital Frontier was founded in 1993 and over the past 28 years has grown into one of the most award-winning and respected animation studios in the computer graphics field. The studio worked on anime like Final Fantasy XV: Kinglsglaive, GANTZ: O. is Wolf childrenas well as several video games including Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remake, Metal Gear Solid 4: Weapons of the Patriots, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and most of the chapters of the Yakuza series. In short, on the front of the graphic effects, Netflix should be in an iron barrel.
However, there are no exclusivity restrictions on the agreement, so Netflix can continue to produce 2D series such as the recently released Gokushufudo: La via del Grembiule, although most of them are exceptions. So the future lies in 3DCGand we just have to wait and see whether or not Netflix’s investment will prove successful.
