In the last chapters of My Hero Academia there has often been talk of Thesis on the singularity of the Quirks, name of the assumption created by Dr. Kyudai Garaki and destined, in one way or another, to bring further upheavals in the world created by Kohei Horikoshi. But what exactly is this theory about and why is it considered taboo?
In chapter 270 of My Hero Academia, fans witnessed an interesting conversation between the doctor and President Mic, in which the first revealed: “70 years ago the world mocked me and my thesis on the singularity of the Quirks. They said it was absurd, that I had no proof, and so they ignored it. Today there is an entire cult that believes in that theory“Garaki’s quest is one of the triggers for the war between heroes and villains, as well as why Tomura Shigaraki is so close to unlocking the potential of All for One.
Kyudai Garaki’s thesis is based on a simple assumption, according to which the Quirks would continue to evolve over time, growing generation after generation. Each skill therefore changes, becoming more complex or simply stronger. However, according to the doctor, this evolution would make Quirks increasingly difficult to control, given that the human body does not evolve with them. In Garaki’s imagination all this could lead to a world where humans are no longer able to control their skills, and consequently to chaos.
The thesis was called absurd and lacking in evidence, and Kyudai was made fun of by other researchers. According to the doctor, the world was not ready to accept a defeatist thesis, and after the insults he decided to disappear from circulation until, some time later, he came contacted by All For One. The villain decided to invest in Garaki’s research and as a result, the doctor became one of his most trusted collaborators.
In the world of My Hero Academia Kyudai supporters are still considered as part of a cult, but undoubtedly the little consideration received by the thesis was one of the causes that led to the awakening of Tomura Shigaraki’s powers.
