To celebrate the success of the critically acclaimed My Hero Academia art exhibition, Kohei Horikoshi was the protagonist of a promotional interview published in the latest issue of Jump Giga. During the chat, the author talked about the manga’s event and success, and even answered some questions from fans.
Among the many, one user asked Horikoshi what creative process led to the creation of the Endeavor and Hawks backstories, and the author replied very clearly: “The origin stories of Endeavor and Hawks? I would say that I tried to mimic the feel of Zion Sono’s works, obviously without trying to reach this level of quality. When I was creating the two characters I had their story in mind and as I was writing I was just thinking, “Okay, how do I get to this point?” From there it was very easy I kept drawing until I succeeded. Of course, the planning phase was essential, or I would have written too many drafts of depressing stories and it would not have been good for my sanity.“.
Sion Sono is one of the greatest Japanese directors and scriptwriters in recent years and has written works of the caliber Strange Circus, Himizu and Tokyo Tribe. Know the works of Sono, We can only hope that a different ending is planned for Endeavor and Hawks, maybe less melancholy and a little more optimistic.
Before we say goodbye, let’s remind you that the 5×06 episode of My Hero Academia will air exclusively on Crunchyroll tomorrow, Saturday, May 1st. For the manga, however, we have to wait an additional week, because Horikoshi – like many other mangaka – has decided to take a break on the occasion of the Golden Week.
