Kohei Horikoshi’s work may come to an end, but his characters still amaze. Himiko toga, whose criminal mentality was explored in My Hero Academia 341, harbors a secret that has only recently been revealed. Here’s the secret to her hair!
The protagonist of the introductory section of chapter 341 is Toga, the criminal who is most loved by fandom and whose past lives on torment his twisted psyche. However, the secrets about her are kept not only in her “inner self” and life from the Union of Villains, but also in her own outward appearance.
As a tweet from user @filifusilli pointed out, Kohei Horikoshi took inspiration for Himiko Toga’s hair from a particularly spooky real-world story. The villain’s extravagant haircut closely resembles the style of the Red spider lilywhose scientific name is Lycoris radiata.
That the antagonist’s hair matches the flower’s style is certainly no coincidence. The red spider lily it usually blooms near cemeteries, in the period of the autumnal equinox, and for this they have created a special urban legend. According to Japanese folk belief, the petals of the flower would be red since they are red they feed on the blood of mortalsdas. The same Japanese name Higanbana denotes the other bank of the Sanzu River, a river that the dead cross to get to the afterlife. And from the underworld one of the antagonists of My Hero Academia will return.
Toga’s hair is based on red spider lilies + they’re mostly planted on graves, so there’s a common belief that it’s red because it sucked the blood of buried dead people, which is identical to Toga’s quirk, so imo it won’t definitely color, but she represents death itself pic.twitter.com/iBVefkp0WL
