My Hero Academia 315 was a chapter full of surprises and revelations, but one in particular deserves a lot of attention. If it is true that everything that happens between Deku and Lady Nagant cannot be overshadowed, it is just as true that discovering how “Fa Jin” works could lead to an unexpected change.

Fa Jin is the name of the quirk introduced in Chapter 313 of My Hero Academia during the first phase of the clash between Deku and the Rifleman in the service of All for One. After being wounded by Lady Nagant’s blows, the protagonist withdraws and hides with the Quirk Smokescreen only to then make an extraordinary jump and reach the sniper in the air, with the mysterious Fa Jin. So what is this new power? And how does it work? Let’s find out together.

Fa Jin is the quirk of the third owner of One for All, currently unnamed, and is provided as one of the most powerful Dekus. The name of the quirk is inspired by Fa Jing, a Chinese martial arts technique that means “throwing” (Fa) with “energy, strength” (Jing). In other words, the quirk allows Deku to topple or hit an opponent hard, but more than the result, it is interesting to analyze how it works.

Chapter 315 of My Hero Academia explains that after activation Fa Jin enables the user to save kinetic energy by repeating certain movements, and share it at will. Combined with the other quirks, this is certainly the best force that could have happened to Deku as it allows him to hit an opponent or build speed without having to perform the movements normally necessary for a human.

We can use an example to illustrate how Fa Jin works. In Deku’s case, in order to jump from one palace to another, the hero has to penetrate his blow with the one for all, run and jump. By activating Fa Jin, the energy that was generated the movement is “preserved” in Midoriya’s legswho can repeat the jump three or four more times to increase the amount. After his release, Deku no longer has to run, as he can jump three to four times faster even when standing still. The same result can be achieved with one blow, which could then become ten or fifteen times more powerful and faster after releasing it.

In chapter 313, Midoriya uses Fa Jin to reach Lady Nagant, and in the next two chapters she continues to conserve kinetic energy by jumping and dodging blows. In chapter 315, Lady Nagant decides to shoot Overhaul to distract Deku, however the protagonist is able to overcome the speed of the ball and save the villain thanks to the energy stored in one leg and smash and break with the other Lady Nagants rifle.

The quirk of the third owner is perfect precisely because it can be combined with the increased strength of the One for All and the flexibility of Black Whip, which can create improvised tendrils or “catapults”. This is a great addition to Deku’s arsenal who now has all of the quirks of the second owner.
