The golden age of the manga continues and apparently another work has started breaking records. As Shueisha revealed Monster # 8 has already exceeded 2.5 million copies in circulation, an unexpected and absolutely incredible result for a manga that was published quietly and with only 2 volumes available.

Monster # 8 was launched by Shueisha on July 3rd, 2020 without excessive advertising and with average expectations. The first chapter of the manga went viral within 48 hours, and on July 25, the publisher confirmed the publication of the work on MangaPlus. Sales of the manga began in December when the manga was bragging almost 500,000 copies in circulation, but the real boom was a few months ago.

In fact, in February 2021, writer Naoya Matsumoto revealed that Monster # 8 had just hit a million copies in circulation. with only one volume and no anime adaptation behind it, an achievement with very few precedents in manga history. On March 4, 2021, Shueisha announced that the work had sold more than 1.2 million copies and that there would be a reprint soon. while today 2.5 copies with only 2 volumes are in circulation. Volume 3 will be out on June 4, 2021, at which point it seems obvious that the manga will manage to cross the 5 million mark by the end of the year.

Monster # 8 is inundated with positive reviews in Japan and is now regularly featured in the top 5 most watched series on MangaPlus. An anime adaptation seems safe at this point, although there is barely enough material to shoot a single season of 12 episodes at the moment.
