With a surprising announcement, the mangaka Ken Akamatsu announced on his Twitter account that he is preparing to enter politics. The creator of many famous works such as Love Hina and Negima will be part of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party alongside the current UQ Holder, a sequel to Negima.
The reason for this choice? Defending freedom of expression. By participating in the elections for the House of Representatives – corresponding to the upper house of the Japanese state parliament, i.e. almost synonymous with our Senate, with the due system differences – The creator of UQ Holder has set himself the goal of defending freedom of expression in Japan.
In the past, Ken Akamatsu has repeatedly discussed his vision on the subject in various interviews and commentariesthe necessary reflection on the situation at the world level between synchronization, censorship and much more, according to both Japanese and foreign standards. His decline into politics has only just begun, but we must wait for the approval of the party, which will hold internal consultations next week.
It would certainly not be everyday to see a mangaka elected to parliament, and with UQ Holder running out, Ken Akamatsu may have enough time to attend to next year’s elections.
