On the official page for the animated adaptation of Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Gaiden (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica side story) a promo picture was posted for the second season. The press release confirmed that the premiere is slated for the summer 2021 season (July-September) and that the cast and production team for the first season will also return.
The first season of the animated adaptation aired during the 2020 winter season (January-March) with a total of thirteen episodes. Platforms Funimation Crispy roll Yes HIDIVE they were responsible for its spread to the west. The franchise is based on a smartphone game released for mobile devices in Japan in August 2017.

Rumor has it that if a young girl makes a deal with a white fairy, she will grant whatever wish her heart desires. In return, however, she becomes a magical girl and has to risk her life to destroy fearsome and wild witches. Iroha Tamaki, a kind hearted high school student from Takarazaki City, is living proof that these rumors are true. Armed with a magical crossbow and the ability to heal wounds, Iroha searches the mazes where witches hide and defeats them before they can attack humans. However, Iroha does not remember her wish and even Kyuubey, the white fairy herself, seems to have no idea what Iroha asked of her.
One day Iroha hears rumors about a city where “magical girls can be saved” and finds herself on a train to Kamihama at sunset. Unfortunately, he realizes that the witches in Kamihama are much more powerful than usual. After the experienced magician Yachiyo Nanami is forced to save her, Iroha vows never to return. But when a chance encounter with little Kyuubey awakens distant memories, Iroha has to investigate the mysterious city despite the danger.
