After several days of promising a major announcement, a press release officially announced the production of an anime adaptation of the manga, written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto, Kaijuu 8-gou (Monster #8). However, the press release did not reveal any production details or a planned release date TOHO animation is involved.
On the other hand, Matsumoto started publishing the manga through the service Shōnen Jump Plus from the publisher shueisha in July 2020. The publisher released the sixth anthology in March 2022, followed by the seventh on July 4 in Japan. In its most recent update, the work confirmed that it has surpassed 7.8 million cumulative copies in circulation.

Summary of Kaijuu 8-gou
Grotesque Godzilla-like monsters called “Kaijuu” have been appearing in Japan for many years. To fight these beasts, an elite military unit known as the Defense Corps risks their lives every day to protect civilians. Once a creature dies, “sweepers” working under the Kaijuu Professional Cleaning Corporation stay behind to dispose of its remains. Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man, is unhappy with his job as a sweeper. From a young age, he aspired to join the Defense Corps and kill Kaijuu for a living.
However, after a few failed attempts, he gave up on his dreams and resigned himself to mediocrity, which earned him a decent salary. However, when an ambitious 18-year-old recruit named Leno Ichikawa joins his cleaning crew, Kafka is once again reminded of his desire to join the army. After a series of unfortunate events and an interaction with the young street sweeper, Kafka encounters a parasitic kaijuu that burrows its way through his mouth, turning him into a humanoid monster. With his newly discovered powers, Kafka wants to give his lifelong dream one last try.
