After a long anticipation, the sixth iteration of Hirohiko Araki’s original manga series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean made its debut on Netflix and is a dream come true for both fans and creators of the series.
It’s a pretty big occasion for a number of reasons: It’s not just the anime’s first season that it debuts worldwide exclusively on Netflix, but it’s also the first season to see the focus of it all a female heroine as the main joestar.
Talking to Netflix about the launch of the series, which is now available to fans around the world, the series’ composer Yugo Kanno (who composes songs for the anime from the days of Stardust Crusader) talked about the challenges he faced while composing the songs for this new season and for Jolyne Cujoh self.
Before that, Kanno shared his overall goal in songwriting: “My goal in creating music for JoJo … well, there are a variety of unique characters in each series. The challenge is to create music that highlights the uniqueness of each character even more“.
Kanno took this element further to describe some of the specific challenges faced by the anime Stone Ocean and explained what he was aiming for with Jolyne’s compositions: “This is the first time with a female lead, so the key was to bring out her femininity. At the same time, she’s a strong character, so I wanted to to combine her femininity with her strength and courage in battle.
“Harmonizing these aspects was the biggest challenge for this series.” With the latest season now available on Netflix, fans can judge these songs for themselves.
