The recent Iron Man run, curated by screenwriter Christopher Cantwell, has seen Tony Stark gets his biggest power up yet, making him the almost omnipotent being known as the Iron God. In the preview of Iron Man #16, Iron God will face off against his old allies: the Avengers.
During the final run, Iron Man gained possession of the Cosmic Power, a source of unlimited energy normally held by Galactus, during a clash with the villain Korvac. Thanks to the cosmic power Iron Man gained divine powers and renamed himself Iron God. Back on Earth after his battle with Korvac, Iron God must now face off against the Avengers, impressed by his amazing new powers.
“I don’t think this has ever been done before“says Cantwell in an interview with SuperHeroHype.”Finding paths never trodden by characters with an editorial history like Iron Man’s isn’t easy. I was trying to do something new for a comic with #14 that is entirely devoted to Tony’s inner experience as the cosmic power is infused into his body. How about suffering something like that? How would a person feel spiritually and emotionally when undergoing such a radical change in their existence?“.
Iron Man #16 preview shows Iron God appearing initially over New York visually very similar to what Galactus did in its infancy, recently cited by the Disney + What If series and the Eternals movie finale (although director Chloe Zhao revealed that Eternals originally had a different ending).
Later, with the arrival of the Avengers, Tony Stark reverts to his normal size, although he is in the face of his new powers you don’t seem particularly intimidated by the Marvel heroes’ troop buildup.
