As part of the celebrations for the twentieth anniversary of the anime adaptation of the manga, a special video was released on the official TOKYO TV channel. Hikaru no go, celebrated in Japan on October 10th. The video shows the musical theme “Get Over”, played by DREAMwhich was also the first opening theme of the original series.

The original manga, written by Yumi hotta and illustrated by Takeshi Obata, was published in the magazine Weekly shonen jump from the publisher Shueisha between January 1999 and July 2003, the work was compiled in a total of 23 volumes. The 75 episode anime adaptation was produced by the studios Pierrot, Headed by Susumu nishizawa, June Kamiya and Tetsuya-Endo, and with scripts written by Yukiyoshi oohashi. An animated film called Hikaru no Go: Journey to the North Star Cup premiered in January 2004.
Summary of Hikaru no Go
When Hikaru Shindou discovers an old go board in his grandfather’s attic, he is greeted by the ghost of an old go master, not Sai Fujiwara. Sai spent his life teaching board game techniques to an emperor during the Heian era, and now, in his ghostly state, he is eager to share his passion with the unsuspecting Hikaru. The only problem is that Hikaru isn’t very interested in board games. But Sai is not easily dissuaded from it. Urged by Sai’s relentless desire to pursue what he calls the “divine move,” Hikaru reluctantly agrees to play the game and performs the moves Sai dictates. But little by little, fascinated by the dedication of his teammates, he learns the basics of the game. As Hikaru ventures into the world of Go, guided by his intangible guardian and inspired by his rival Akira Touya, he can’t help but get swept up in the complex game while determined to demonstrate his own skills. In a coming-of-age story centered around an old board game, Hikaru no Go tells the story of a boy who matures by pursuing his newfound passion.
