Over the years the Anime has become a truly global phenomenonbut it didn’t happen overnight. The medium grew inch by inch for decades before anime hit mainstream circles internationally.
The 1990s were a good time for the medium and many more years flew by with extraordinary series open to everyone. So, thanks to a lot of fans, it was done a huge new poll that rates the best years for anime and the series that made it so.
Some of the data for the survey was collected by one of the biggest anime fan sites around. My Anime List has compiled its ratings and reviews, and has selected thousands of series to find the best. Some of the prime years for anime still exploded during the medium’s global expansion. And yes, series like Cowboy Bebop and Death Note made their contribution.
The full list of years can be found below, there MyAnimeList has broken down the periods into before and after 2000. If we look at the first period, we can see series like Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball Z, and Sailor Moon R.. These series are all considered great classics by fans today, and their legacy still stands today.
In the prime years after 2000, things are different. The early 2000s welcomed series like Gintama, Code Geass and also Gurren Lagann. But over the years the medium is 2019 with hits like Vinland Saga, Mob Psycho 100 II and other.
These days the medium is having a great time as series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and My Hero Academia have grown in popularity. However, if you haven’t seen all of these must-have series, we recommend that you catch up on them ASAP.
