As we expected, for the 25th anniversary of Toonami, a US program airing on , FLCL will return with two new series Swimming for adults and Cartoon Network. FLCL has always had an excellent fan base and that is why Adult Swim decided to produce two new seasons namely FLCL: Grunge and FLCL: Shoegaze.

The series FLCL made its absolute debut in 2000 with six episodes co-produced by Studio Gainax and Production IG. Two sequel seasons, titled FLCL: Progressive and FLCL: Alternative, were released in 2018 and are available on Crunchyroll as of 2019. Adult Swim has therefore seen fit to announce two new seasons for the opera, FLCL: Dirtproduced by MontBlanc Pictures and directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo, and FLCL: Shoegaze produced by Studio NUT and Production IG and directed by Yutaka Uemura.

FLCL: Grunge, which MontBlanc Pictures is working on, will be produced with CG animation, a first for the series. He spoke about this technique Hitoshi TakekiyoDirector of the new season, explains that "First we wondered if the new CGI FLCL series could be accepted by the fans. We have therefore made an application to submit a first test to Adult Swim. Then I created a simple animation of haruko alone and I realized that CGI could really work for FLCL. We have therefore decided to accept the production of the series."
