The film is on its last weekend Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 three times at a time 169,296 tickets sold for 265.87 million yen (approx. 2.42 million US dollars) gross, making a total of 5,867,510 tickets sold and a total of 8.96 billion yen (approx. 81.7 million US dollars) gross. It should be noted that this last weekend meant a 939.5% increase in ticket sales compared to the previous weekend and an increase in revenue of 960.5% compared to the same period..

Eventually the film was released in Japanese theaters on March 8, becoming the top hit film for both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Hideaki Anno. The new version contains “small revisions” of some animation sequences, but does not change the story of the film.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Synopsis
In 2015 the world is on the verge of destruction. Mankind’s last hope rests in the hands of NERV, a specialized agency under the command of the United Nations, and their Evangelions, giant robots capable of defeating the angels who herald the doom of the earth. Gendou Ikari, head of the organization, is looking for compatible pilots who can synchronize with the Evangelions and develop their true potential.
A talented strategist, Misato Katsuragi, head of tactical operations, and Ritsuko Akagi, chief scientist, are helping with these defensive efforts.
