Forty years, forty-two authors, forty-two covers, an iconic franchise. The Dragon Ball Super Gallery, a project to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dragon ball, comes on his fourth date. This time Ryuhei Tamura, author of Beelzebub, Hardboiled and Dolphin, pays homage to Akira Toriyama’s work.
In 2024, Dragon Ball turns forty. In light of this record-breaking milestone, the Dragon Ball Super Gallery was launched, an initiative for forty-two different authors to redesign the forty-two covers of the Dragon Ball manga in their own way each month.
The fourth appointment with the project has been signed Ryuhei Tamura, the mangaka who signed the famous Beelzebub, among other things. The cover chosen by Tamura is that of Volume 38 of Dragon Ball, a cover that shows Goten riding a cute blue dragon.
“Congratulations to Dragon Ball on these 40 years“said the author accompanying his illustration.”When I first saw Goku’s children, I liked them so much that I put them on until I was exhausted. I love both Gohan and Goten and have just realized my love for drawing childish characters. That’s exactly why I chose the cover of Volume 38. I am very honored to have participated in this project“.
As we can see from the tweet at the end of the article, the Cover by Tamura It has obvious differences from the original. At Toriyama’s, Goten swallows his snack and the blue dragon flies with his head bowed. In Tamura’s reinterpretation, however, Goku’s second son gives his friend one of his snacks.
We leave you the third appointment with the Dragon Ball Super Gallery and the cover of volume 11 designed by Kishimoto.
