The crossover event Devil’s Reign, in which superheroes are banned from New York City by order of Mayor Kingpin, is nearing its end. On the pages of the tie-in Daredevil: Woman Without Fear #3, Marvel appears to have anticipated a revelation destined for Devil’s Reign #5: the death of one of the protagonists.
Daredevil: Woman Without Fear is the series he watches Elektra protects Hell’s Kitchen as Daredevil. Elektra took on the role of the Guardian Devil in Daredevil’s most recent series, which left Matt Murdock in prison, unable to fulfill his role as vigilante.
With Murdock returning to the action, New York has so far enjoyed the presence of two Daredevils. In the finale of the third issue of Woman Without Fear, written by Chip Zdarsky, also a writer of the Devil’s Reign event, Elektra discovers just that Death of Matt Murdock, who according to Goldy Goldman was killed in his apartment.
Elektra, certain of Kingpin’s involvement, then decides to avenge her lover by plotting Mayor Fisk’s assassination. It is also revealed in the finale that Goldy seems to have a mysterious plan, and that Fisk’s death at the hands of Elektra is part of this plan.
It is therefore unclear whether the blind lawyer actually found the death or whether it was just a lie by Goldy. Whether it’s a spoiler or a misdirection from Marvel, we’ll uncover the truth next week: Devil’s Reign #5 will be released on March 9, 2022 in the US.
The death of Matt Murdock also seems particularly unlikely in view of the relaunch of Daredevil, which will start again from number 1 and which ones will see the Zdarsky-Checchetto couple at work again.
