In just three days, Aniplex, Ufotbale and Shueisha placed over a million copies of the home video edition of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, a historic record for the Japanese entertainment industry. A total of 1,074,170 units were sold in the first 72 hours, with 80% of sales being made on the launch day.

With 804,079 copies sold on June 15, 2021, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train hit the recorded launch of Frozen in 2014 (661,000 copies) and there are now just under 500,000 copies left to get the record for the best-selling Blu-ray / DVD in history in the first week. In the two days after the market launch, however, 173,146 and 96,945 copies were sold, numbers that make it plausible to break the one and a half million wall.

The home video edition of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train includes the bilingual film (Japanese and English) with multiple accessibility options, including the ability to enable audio description for the blind, as well as a CD with the soundtrack. The limited edition also includes a special illustration by character designer Akira Matsushima and an audio CD with commentary by the five protagonists. The limited editions sold were approximately 445,000, which corresponds to 42% of the total sales recorded in the first three days.

The Demon Slayer film grossed around half a billion dollars worldwide, far surpassing Studio Ghibli’s Enchanted City the most watched anime movie of all time. The second season of the animated series will air in autumn 2021 and serves as a sequel to the film.
