One of the most powerful villains of the Marvel Universe is preparing for his return to the comics: it is the Arcanum, known in the original version as the Beyonder, the almighty one responsible for the creation of the Secret Wars. The Beyonder will be the main antagonist of the new Defenders series announced by Marvel.
After the conclusion of the latest miniseries last January, Marvel had already anticipated the return of the Defenders in the future. Through two teaser posters posted on his social pages, Marvel is back to tease readers about the new Defenders seriescoming in June 2022.
The first teaser poster shows a character in armor, face covered, accompanied by the caption: “An unexpected opponent for the defenders…“,”An unexpected enemy for the defenders…“A second advertising poster followed, that reveals the return of the Arcanum and complete the slogan with “… Comes from the afterlife‘, alludes to the character’s name in the original version.
The Beyonder is a character created by Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck as Villain of one of the very first Marvel crossovers, Secret Warsreleased in 1984. It is a being with divine powers whose origins have been the subject of numerous retcons: the most recent see it as a sentient manifestation of a cosmic cube.
Marvel hasn’t provided any further information on this new Defenders series, but new details shouldn’t be long in coming in the coming weeks. We share the two teaser posters in the gallery below. Staying on topic, the Defenders Netflix series is coming to Disney+ soon.
