After anticipating the arrival of a new line of defenders and the return of the arcane, Marvel Comics has officially revealed all the details about Defenders: Beyonda five-issue miniseries that, starting in June, will narrate a new adventure that challenges the defenders to defend reality itself.
Defenders: Beyond is being realized by screenwriter Al Ewing, who is currently working on Venom and Thor, and a veteran of the success of Immortal Hulk, accompanied by illustrator Javier Rodriguez. This is the same creative team that made the previous Defenders miniseriessimply called Defenders, which ended last January.
“We have a new diverse group of defenders chosen for the occasion from Stephen Strange’s latest spell“announces Ewing.”This is likely a farewell to many of the storylines of the last decade and at least one character getting their newest adventure. I hope you survive the psychedelic experience adventurers!“.
“Al Ewing is like a magician who can open portals to the most incredible stories imaginable“adds Rodriguez.”It could show you the most cosmic and spectacular events in the Marvel Universe. And at the same time, he has a keen interest in each of the characters on the team, their lives and the particular issues that allow us to identify with them. I had a lot of fun translating everything into pictures. That’s why I’m so excited to be back with The Defenders“.
The new team of defenders, as revealed by Ewing, is collected by Doctor Strange just behind the tomb (The death of the Sorcerer Supreme was the focus of The Death of Doctor Strange series). This new roster consists of Blue Marvel, America Chavez, Taaia (mother of Galactus), Tigra, and a teenage variant of Loki.
Marvel also shared the Rodriguez-curated “wraparound cover,” which features the all-new lineup as well the most important characters in the team’s pastincluding Hulk, Silver Surfer and Namor.
Defender: Beyond #1 will be released in the United States on June 16, 2022.
