Joshua Williamson, screenwriter of the ongoing Justice League run, posted via Twitter a promotional image that foreshadows a “big announcement.” scheduled for today. All indications point to the arrival of a new Crisis on Infinite Earths style.
The promotional image created by artists Daniel Sampere and Alejandro Sánchez is accompanied by the caption “It’s about the legacy…“,”It’s an inheritance…‘, and seems to refer to the death of the Justice League announced by DC Comics. With the release of Justice League #75 in April, indeed, Williamson will narrate the deaths of all team members except one.
DC Comics had already revealed that Death of Justice League would be solo the beginning of a story that would rock the DC Universe from its foundations, and Williamson’s expectation only confirms the premises.
The Crisis on Infinite Earths event, written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Pérez in 1985, was the first major DC crossover event to be went to rewrite the reality of the universe of Superman and his associates. More “Crisis” followed over the years, such as “Infinite Crisis” in 2005 and “Final Crisis” in 2008.
Later today, we’ll find out if Williamson actually anticipates the arrival of a new “crisis.” Meanwhile, the Death of Justice League illustrator said he took inspiration from The Lord of the Rings for the event.
