The strange announcement comes straight from Facebook and from the official site of theHonduras Democratic Youth Observatory. The organization recently went on social media ahead of the presidential election and shared a post Light Yagami from Death Note as a testimony.
As you can see, the announcement is quite simple as Light is keeping a black diary, which however it’s not a death note. A little photo editing turned Death Note’s diary into an election brochure and ad copy it urges young voters to take the future into their own hands.
“The power is in your hands”, reads the announcement. “Poll!” The caption continues to share other details as the organization warns supporters that inaction will not elicit responses. The announcement tells voters that if they don’t vote, if they don’t vote, others will decide the country’s future, with no chance of complaining about unemployment or similar issues.
The advertising space was purchased in the run-up to the presidential elections in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. We don’t know if Light’s Fate was right or wrong in Death Note, but if you’re wondering whether the announcement worked or not, now something seems to have managed to drive voters out of the house on election day.
No official winner has currently been declared in the elections, but the Honduran electoral council hasmassive voter turnout. More than 2.7 million votes were cast, dwarfing the 2017 election numbers. Global politics and the ongoing pandemic are likely to be contributing to the turnout, and who knows what Light didn’t even convince a few Death Note fans to vote?
