2020 was a bad year for anime culture as over 40% of the studies had a red budget. Some companies have been closed for several weeks and several titles have had to be postponed to gain enough time for the episodes to complete. Anyway, recently the animator Takashi WatanabeHe, who has worked on all seasons of My Hero Academia, among other things, spoke on Twitter of a complex and significantly deteriorating situation.
In fact, the animator revealed that “after hearing that at least one study was closed due to an outbreak and that they would have a confidentiality obligation regarding the conclusion and would not disclose any information to the public.“Then Watanabe adds that there are other similar cases in Japan that have been confirmed by another animator, a certain one, among others yamaaan222 on Twitter and even from a designer. However, what seems more and more certain is that the number of animation studios closing due to the infections is only increasing and it is not certain that some productions could slow down in the coming weeks.
