Study 4 ° C.The Japanese animation studio, which is responsible for the production of the excellent anime film Children of the Sea, is hosting a virtual art exhibition in the Nucleus Gallery from Alhambra, California, complete with Exhibitions and interviews with some key employees.

Yesterday, February 10, 2021, Ayumu Watanabe also spoke publicly, Director of Children of the Sea who revealed some details about the film while speaking with fans. According to the director The film was originally supposed to last around 200 minutesHowever, the production insisted on cutting some scenes, reducing the duration to 111 minutes and excluding some more or less important scenes.

Eiko Tanaka, founder of Studio 4 ° C, said that for Japanese producers, any film that is longer than 120 minutes is considered counterproductive because it could not be shown in theaters more than six times a day. Watanabe claimed to know the reason for the cuts, but added that he would have loved to bring all the tables in Daisuke Igarashi’s masterpiece to life.

The production of Children of the Sea required about four times the investment compared to a normal anime film, and the cost would likely have increased too much if an additional ninety minutes of material had been produced. After all, the film brought in “only” 600 million yen (about 4.7 million euros), a passable but not optimal figure.

What do you think about it? Would you have liked to see the full version? Tell us in the comments! In the meantime, we would like to remind you that you can support the studio by purchasing the Children of the Sea home video, also available in Italy thanks to Dynit.
