For the last few days, the Internet has been discussing the flop of chainsaw man As for the home video box sets, reports in the community have raised some fears that the television series may not be continued.
It must be acknowledged that given the cost of each box set, home video sales data has always been an important source of income for the production committees or those who invested in the creation of the anime. In the case of Chainsaw Man, the situation is more complex, as studio MAPPA has taken on the entire production costs in hopes that the TV adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga will turn out to be a goose that lays golden eggs.
Today, however, the reality is very different the revenue limits no longer depend only on the home video market but also from other sources, most notably streaming, where the anime has also depopulated in terms of marketing and promotion and that probably provided some profit margin. Chainsaw Man is an investment that almost certainly won’t jeopardize a second season, given the benefit of the doubt. The only confusion that implementation could bring is that of a change of direction in staff with a more economical and sustainable plan, with a consequent deterioration in technical quality.
Whatever the case, Chainsaw Man’s impact on the studio’s box office will be felt in a few years MAPPA plans its series 2 or 3 years in advance, so the company still has room for maneuver in terms of managing the franchise. And you however, given the home video dates, what do you expect from the future of anime? Let us know with a comment below.
