Chapter 97 of Chainsaw Man is now available on MangaPlus and marks the conclusion of the first part of the manga. After the insane events of Chapter 96, many expected a leap in time or some anticipation for the new story arc, but apparently Fujimoto preferred to take the time to answer a few questions.

We saw in chapter 96 of Chainsaw Man Denji and Pochita team up to kill Makima, literally torn apart and devoured by the protagonist to prevent his rebirth. The latest issue starts with Denji busy enjoying dinner and then discussing what happened to Kishibe.

The protagonist reveals that he never wanted to kill Makima, but that he ate her in order to become one with her, in what appears to be craziest ways to express your love. Kishibe asks Denji how it is possible that Makima was caught in such a trivial attack, and he reveals that “it was an easy bet”. Indeed, according to Denji Makima was only interested in the chainsaw deviland for that reason she would not have noticed him creeping up.

Kishibe then introduces Denji to the new Control Devil, an incredibly similar girl to Makima. The devil hunter explains to the protagonist that the girl was discovered in China and that commissioning the government would only lead to the creation of a second makima. For this reason, Kishibe Denji entrusts the young Nayuta.

On the last pages we also see Pochita, the chainsaw devil, who reveals his dream to the protagonist: to be hugged by someone. Denji understands Makima’s true motives and promises not to give up on Nayutaand then sets off to drive away the next devil.

The last page of Chapter 97 confirms the production of the second part of Chainsaw Man, which apparently it won’t arrive before 2021. For the moment, Denji’s story ends here.
