With episode 287, the Boruto anime series has finally started adapting the events that transpired in the manga of the same name by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto. So the Assault of Code saga has finally begun, but what is the goal of the last surviving member of the Kara organization?
The anime's story begins in the moments after the end of the fight with Isshiki. Before his death, the Ootstsuki Code visits his chosen disciple for entrust him with his final wishes and take him on one final mission.
As Isshiki's heir, Code must continue its mission, interrupted by Naruto, Sasuke, Kawaki and Boruto. Now that the Ootsutsuki is gone, he must ambush Leaf Village.
But besides avenging the Master's death by killing his assassins, Code has another mission. He will have to sacrifice one of Kawaki and Boruto to the Ten-Tails far give birth to a new Divine Tree and eat its fruits to evolve and become the new divine being that will spread the influence of the Ootsutsuki throughout the universe. The goal of code is therefore become a god Ootsutsuki. To achieve this, in Boruto 288 he needs the help of Eida, who was feared even by Jigen and who has a special eye that can see and know everything.
