For the season finale of the anime adaptation of the Millennial War saga, Studio Pierrot has opted for a single maxi-episode divided into two distinct parts. The first continues the story of Ichigo Kurosaki’s parents.
In Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War 1×11, Isshin Shiba finally found the courage to reveal the truth to his son. Ichigo has it discovered he was a Quincyjust like the friend Ishida and the antagonist Yhwach.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War 1×12 restarts Flashbacks to Isshin and Masaki Kurosaki. Back in Soul Society, Isshin reports to Commander Genryusai Yamamoto what happened in the human world. However, the Captain of the 10th Division omits the part about Masaki and the Quincy as he is intrigued by the girl. Determined to see her again to thank her, he returns to the human world.
Meanwhile, Masaki realizes that something is wrong since he took part in the fight with the hollow. His health appears to be failing, and when he returns to Ishida’s house, he discovers the truth. Katagiri told Ryuken Ishida’s mother what happened that night. That Pure Quincy blood has been tainted with Hollow blood and shortly after, Masaki passes out. There is a hollow hole on his chest.
As Ryu Ishida flees along with Masaki’s helpless body in search of a cure, the duo encounters Isshin, who thereby discovers the states flowing into the girl who saved his life. In return, the group is addressed by Kisuke Uraharawho reveals that he has a cure.
Urahara reveals that he researched thishollowification for over 100 years and that the only way to cure Masaki is through a major sacrifice from a direct opposite of a Quincy. A Soul Reaper must have give up his powers forever and inhabit the body of a gigai. Without reservation, Isshin immediately agrees to save the girl’s life. Masaki is safe and Ryuken decides to leave her in the care of Isshin, who can never return to Soul Society.
Love broke out between the two, but Isshin’s story doesn’t end there. Ichigo’s father explains that too which is why Masaki died nine years earlier. It was the awakening of Yhwach that caused the deaths of Katagiri, Uryu’s mother, and of Masaki. In fact, in order to regain his powers, the creator of the Quincy decided to remove those of the Mixed Quincy that were considered impure through a process called natural selection Choose.
