There are few stories as dramatic and dark as Gatsu’s berserk in the immense manga landscape, and what originally defined the journey of the Black Warrior epic was its constant growth, mainly due to the fact that it had to face and overcome new obstacles and enemies all the time in order to take revenge.
In the course of the defendant’s work Master Kentaro Miura, Gatsu was betrayed many times and only had to rely on himself and his abilities. In other series, both Shonen and Seinen, the protagonists often have a paternal reference figure, just think of Naruto with Minato Namikaze and Deku from My Hero Academia who has a strong admiration for All Might. That doesn’t happen with Berserk.
Gatsu is born from his mother’s corpse, hanging from a tree, and this is the only circumstance in which readers catch a glimpse of either of her parents. Adopted by Sys, who will die of the plague, Gatsu will begin his life as a mercenary and warrior, following the teachings of Gambino, the commander of the group the woman was in.
Unfortunately Gambino will turn out to be a terrible human being, and will perish by the sword of Gatsu himself. Years later, the protagonist will therefore be left without a role model, however terrible, which he will find in his eternal rival Grifis. Once again, however, the blindfolded Goddess will turn her back on the Black Warrior, and when Grifis, sacrificing the lives of his companions, will rise PhemtoGatsu will definitely find himself without a reference figure.
However, given his age and past experiences that have softened his character, Gatsu reveals himself a character who can deal with loneliness, and who doesn’t seem to show affection for his real parents, but for people who have held similar roles in the past. However, the hero of Berserk is defined by his own actions and choices, cutting all ties to his origins.
Gatsu feels absolutely no gratitude towards his parents and of course we can only agree with the way things have gone and this combined with all the betrayal suffered only adds to it appreciate his independence, stamina and strength to keep goingto assert his ideals and to follow his iron and independent mentality. A series of decisions that certainly did not remove him from the concept of group and family, since he himself became the leader of many characters, being considered an older brother.
Essentially, the intricate and complex path that Gatsu faced led to his lack of reliance on apparent father figures, and this justifies the total lack of references and thoughts oriented towards his true origins. Finally we leave you with a great female cosplay of Grifis.
