DC Comics has announced a new limited series in which the Dark Knight is the protagonist of a story created by Gary Whitta (theme author of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and by Darick Robertson (co-creator of The Boys). The series entitled Batman: Fortress will be told in eight issues starting in May.
While DC updates Bruce Wayne’s origins in a miniseries set in the past, the Dark Knight finds himself in the present in Batman: Fortress face an alien invasion in Superman’s absence, which is no longer available. Gathering the Justice League forces Batman to besiege the Fortress of Solitude in hopes of overcoming the alien threat.
“This is the first time I’ve had the opportunity to work with Gary Whitta again since Oliver, which we created together. This time we’re working on one of my absolute favorite characters for DC“, explains Robertson.”I have a lot of fun illustrating this series and have my friend Ben Abernathy, the original editor of The Boys, as a guide. This is my dream project, full of twists and surprises for the readers!“.
“It has always been my dream to write a truly epic Batman story that takes inspiration from the darkest and most unexpected corners of the DC Universe.“adds Whitta.”The opportunity to work again with my friend Darick Robertson makes it even better. I hope that together we’ll do justice to some of DC’s most iconic characters while reinventing everything you think you know about them…“.
Batman: Fortress #1 (of 8) will be released on May 24, 2022. Below we share the main covers of the first two issues created by Robertson and the two variants of the first issue created by Robertson himself and artist Doaly.
