The breaks for mangaka on Weekly Shonen Jump are almost a pipe dream. In recent years, only the most famous authors and with the most famous series could hope to avoid a week of publication, even if conditions have softened over the years. but Weekly Shonen Jump has always had an eye on health issues.
The cases of Hunter x Hunter and World Trigger are famous, but there are many other current situations, like that of Jujutsu Kaisen, that are more special. One recent situation is causing a stir for many reasons: The Ayashimon author has contracted Covid-19 and will therefore be on hiatus.
Yuji Kaku, former writer of Jigokuraku - Hell's Paradise, which will also become an anime in the coming months, has contracted the pandemic virus that is still killing people in Japan. The mangaka then caught the symptoms, forcing Weekly Shonen Jump to pause the manga for a week. So nothing serious because the sensei returns in #13 of the magazine anyway, but that's it one of the very few known cases of mangaka catching Covid-19plus the fact that Ayashimon is a very young series - only 12 chapters have been released so far - and it's rare for a series in Shueisha magazine to go on hiatus so early.
Of course, the most important thing is to see Kaku back at work, with the mangaka, who has already published an apology drawing on Twitter, where warns readers that he's already back at work and doing fine now.
Ayashimon is taking a break in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #12 next week. Yuji Kaku was unable to write for a while due to COVID but has now recovered and is back to work. The series will continue as planned in issue #13. https://t.co/gkULxTMOw8
