For his part, Kato started publishing the manga in the magazine Jump Square from the publisher shueisha in April 2009. The work inspired a 25-episode anime adaptation produced by the studios A-1 Pictures Led by Tensai Okamura and scripts written by Ryūta Yamaguchireleased in April 2011. A second season entitled as Ao no exorcist: Kyoto Fujouou-hen (Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga) started in January 2017 with a total of twelve episodes.
Summary of Ao no Exorcist
Humans and Demons are two sides of the same coin, just as Assiah and Gehenna are their respective worlds. The only way to travel between the two worlds is through an obsession. However, Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, was unable to find a vessel worth possessing and consequently remains locked in his world. In a desperate attempt to conquer Assiah, he sends his son with the goal that in the future he will become a worthy ship capable of becoming the demon king.
The story follows Rin Okumura who seems to be an ordinary boy until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is the son of Satan and that his father is looking for him to return to finally conquer Assiah together.
