dragon ball is one of the most relevant and influential franchises in the history of oriental comics, which still manages to attract many fans today. But how much of that success is down to community interactions and projects done by the fans themselves? A YouTuber attempted to answer this question, sparking a huge controversy.
This is the content creator known as TotallyNotMark, who has recently been at the center of a harsh copyright intervention by Toei Animation, who, in his recent video, came out directly saying that much of Dragon Ball’s popularity in the western world is due to the parody series Dragon Ball Z shortenedmanufactured by Team Four Star.
A dry opinion, which unleashed the fan community with direct and unfiltered answers, reports at the bottom. As funny as Abbridged might be called, it would be unfair to think so Dragon Ball has remained among the most followed works exclusively for an amateur project and made entirely by fans. What is your opinion? Do you know Abridged? Tell us in the comments.
Finally, remember that Gohan and Trunks have received a Final Fantasy theme and we’ll let you find out why they grow hair with the transformation into Super Saiyan 3.

It's not really wrong though. Sure, Dragon Ball will forever be popular. But to say that DBZA played zero role in keeping any interest, or perhaps even getting younger viewers into the series seems dumb. It's like how I would literally give no fucks about Yu-Gi-Oh without TGOTAS. https://t.co/RidlN5bCA9

He’s right
Anger at the overuse of memes and jokes aside, not everyone was picking up the video games. DBZA was one of the most rigorously edited and scripted abridged series at the time and was able to use it to create memes that endure in the collective consciousness https://t.co/44eTggpIf6

So wait, why were people mad at Totally Not Mark and saying very accurately how important Team Four Star was in keeping the Dragon Ball conversation alive
(I don’t really want to know, y’all are wrong and being a nuisance, DBZA was good for the fandom)

What he says: DBZA has helped sustain Western Dragon Ball fandom in times of drought.
What people are hearing and saying: “BRO THIS FOOL THINK DBZA SAVED DRAGON BALL LMAOOOOO GARBAGE TAKE” https://t.co/f9qtIMXFhd

As TotallyNotMark said that TFS/DBZA was one of the biggest contributors to Dragon Ball Z’s growth in the West in the 2000s pic.twitter.com/JbYikXrX4s

dbza was great. A well-crafted parody that helped DB fans get something to eat when there was little official content to consume at the time
I just wish 95% of dbza fans weren’t so terrible lmao but that they’re stupid isn’t tfs fault

“DBZA is no reason why Dragon Ball is still popular”
Statistically, not a single minute of the day goes by that someone doesn’t watch a single episode of DBZA. The series probably wouldn’t be dead without her, but that’s not nothing. pic.twitter.com/CUIFB4UcU2
