The Executive Committee for the Fifteenth Edition of the Prize Manga Taisho, has officially announced the ten candidates who will compete for the coveted title. Among the nominations we find three works that have already participated in the previous edition, we remember that Freeze won: Beyond the end of the journey.
Manga Taisho is a annual competition which has awarded the best manga since 2008. The judging of the work of the year, which can count a maximum of eight volumes to promote the latest titles, is a committee made up of Japanese comics staff. 99 people were nominated for the 2022 edition ten manga from a selection of 235 titles. The 10 finalists of the competition are:
John Tarachine’s Umi ga Hashiru Endroll;
• Oshi no Ko by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari (already nominated last year);
• Onna no Sono no Hoshi by Yama Wayama (already nominated last year);
• Jitenshaya-san no Takahashi-kun by Arare Matsumushi;
• Darwin Jihen by Shun Umezawa;
• Dandadan by Yukinobu Tatsu;
• Who: Chikyu no Undo ni Tsuite by Uoto (already nominated last year);
• Trillion Game by Ryoichi Ikegami and Riichirou Inagaki;
• Keigo Shinzo’s Hirayasumi;
• Looking Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto.
The winner of the award will be announced at a glamorous awards ceremony held at the end of a second round of voting between mid-month and late in the month March 2022. Previous edition winners include such acclaimed works as Blue Period (2020), Beastars (2018) and Golden Kamuy (2016). The winner of the first edition of 2008 was Gaku – Minna no Yama.
