Weekly Shonen Sunday just announced that Sousou no freezingThe manga by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, published in the weekly Shogakukan, triumphed in the Manga Taisho Awards 2021, beating giants of the Spy x Family and Monster # 8 caliber. The awards ceremony will take place live tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, 2021 -Streaming instead.
This is not an unexpected win given the manga’s huge popularity in Japan, but considering that the competition consisted of works of the caliber of Monster # 8, Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru, Spy x family is Oshi no KoIt’s not even a foregone conclusion. The final score will be posted tomorrow, but you can take a look at the ten nominees and the winner below.

Spy x Family therefore loses the award for the second time in a row, as does Mizu wa Umi ni Mukatte Nagareru. In fact, both were already on the list for Blue Period’s 2020 Taisho Award, finishing in second and fifth. Yama Wayama is instead the only artist who managed to get two works in the top 10.
