Patience is the key word today. The original plans looked perfect for this summer, but things have taken a turn. This Sunday, the production committee of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mo, Shindeiru) dropped a bucket of cold water mixed with excellent news.
On one hand, they released the first promotional video and visual of season two. On the other, they confirmed the launch moves from July to October 2026. And if that weren’t enough, the franchise announced a Nintendo Switch game in development.
The Voices Behind the Mystery
If you watched the new promotional video, you probably froze in the last seconds. The clip introduces Noches—a new character in a maid’s outfit, the spitting image of the detective we thought was dead. Studio ENGI brings back almost its entire main cast, adding this double role that will blow our minds.

The universe that Nigoju (writer) and Umibozu (illustrator) built in their light novel doesn’t stop growing. Since 2019, the story has broken sales records, earning a first season in 2021 and a manga that concluded in 2023. Now the bet goes up a notch.
The Nintendo Switch game is in the hands of Taito Games. They remain tight-lipped about genre and details. Director Manabu Kurihara returns to animation, supported by scripts from Deko Akao and designs by Yosuke Ito.
What Is This Story About?

The problem begins when Siesta dies tragically. Devastated, Kimihiko tries to return to normal life, but the past refuses to let go.
With new friends, he must continue solving crimes while honoring his mentor’s legacy. Now, with the appearance of Noches—who looks identical and shares the same voice—the board turns upside down.
The Open Question
Is Noches a clone created by villains, or does she hide something supernatural in her origin? Considering she’s physically identical to Siesta and voiced by the same actress, the mystery deepens.
A delay is manageable. A doppelgänger is a conversation worth having.
