Junji Ito is one of Japan’s most famous mangaka. Known for his horror stories, mostly self-contained and collected in a few volumes, he has also prepared somewhat longer-lasting series. The most important thing is certainly Uzumaki – spiralwhich also caught the attention of a studio working on the animated adaptation.

Junji Ito will also take part in the anime, which however has suffered setbacks and slowdowns for years, with quite a choppy and slow production. Unfortunately, in the last few hours, the Twitter account of Uzumaki has revealed a new shift for the anime. The staff explains the reason with a letter.

“Thank you for your interest and positive comments regarding the Uzumaki anime adaptation. Unfortunately the series debut date has to be pushed back again. To recreate the quality of the intricate designs and lines of Sensei Ito’s work, director Nagahama and the production team requested additional time to properly recreate Ito’s masterpiece. As far as it is our intention to make the product available to the public as soon as possible, We don’t want to compromise quality by delivering a mediocre end product. However, we remain steadfast in our goal of completing this high-profile work. We’ll be back with a specific premiere date when we’re sure this adaptation will be as good as we want it to be. Thank you for your patience and support.”

A definitely right choice by the staff who had already decided to postpone Uzumaki to 2021.
