In November 2020, the domain registration (https://umineko-movie.com) was reported, which would have indicated the production of a film based on this franchise. The information was not made official and could even relate to a live action movie rather than an animated one.
07. Extension launched the first visual novel in Japan in August 2007 during the Comic market (Comiket) 72. Later a second installment with the title Turn off the golden witch was released in December of the same year and titled the third game Golden Witch Banquet was released in August 2008. The publications continued until the seventh in August 2010. Ultimately, the piece inspired a 26-episode anime adaptation produced by Studio deen, Headed by Chiaki kon and scripts written by Toshifumi Kawase, published July 2009.
Summary of Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Umineko no Naku Koro is billed as the third installment in the series “When They Cry” by 07th Expansion and is also not set on the island of Rokkenjima, which belongs to the immensely wealthy Ushiromiya family. As every year, the whole family gathers on the island for a conference that analyzes the current financial situation of each person. Due to the poor health of the head of the family, this year he deals with the question of the inheritance of the head of the family and its distribution.
Little does the family know, however, that the distribution of wealth is the least of Ushiromiya Kinzou (head of the family) concern for this year’s family conference. After Kinzou has learned from his old friend and doctor that his end is near, he really wants to get to know the true love of his life one last time: the golden witch Beatrice. Immersed in black magic in the last few years of his life, Kinzou is initiating a ceremony to resuscitate his beloved upon the family’s arrival in Rokkenjima. Shortly thereafter, a violent typhoon traps the island’s family and begins a series of mysterious murders that force the island’s eighteen people to fight for their lives in a deadly battle between fantasy and reality.
