Through a press release posted a few hours ago on its official website, the animation studio GoHands confirmed the postponement of the anime adaptation of Tokyo Babylon, from April 2021 to a date yet to be determined. The reason for the postponement is related to a possible plagiarism allegation due to the character design of two characters.
The problem arose last month when some fans found similarities between the costumes of the characters in question and two dresses worn by members of the K-pop group red velvet. As you can see below The similarities are immediately apparentand the studio decided to remove anime-related images and videos immediately to avoid legal issues.
""We apologize to all users"we read on the official website,"However, on November 19, we were made aware of the similarity between two existing costumes and two dresses our animators had made for the anime Tokyo Babylon 2021 We noticed that there was no proper processing of rights performed when creating the character costumes [...] We will take this seriously and strengthen our management system and strive to make sure this never happens again.".
The anime will therefore be postponed to a later date and will remain in production until all scenes with the two characters in question have been re-recorded. For more details on the anime, check out Tokyo Babylon's latest trailer, which revealed the synopsis, staff, cast and other details.
