Another fantasy exile is about to discover that rural Japan offers its own particular brand of culture shock.
Ominaeshi’s manga Mahoutsukai Rose no Sado Life secured an anime adaptation this week. The announcement came through a commemorative cover in a forthcoming issue of Manga Time Kirara Forward, featuring protagonists Roséstalia and Sana Tsuchiya. The author celebrated with a new illustration posted online.
What We Know
Not much yet. Production details remain under wraps:
- Studio
- Staff
- Cast
- Release timing
The committee has issued only the confirmation itself. Further announcements should follow.

The Setup
Rosé Staria, a young witch, faces ostracism in her homeland for one absurd reason: black hair. Rather than endure the prejudice, she portals herself elsewhere.
She lands on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. Not Tokyo. Not even close. A crested ibis attacks her on arrival. A local girl, Sana, intervenes and offers shelter.
The comedy writes itself from there. Rosé watches television in Sana’s home and convinces herself she’s landed in the glittering capital. She hasn’t. She’s on a quiet rural island, completely unaware.
Track Record
The series launched in Manga Time Kirara Forward through Houbunsha. It earned a Next Manga Award nomination. Five compiled volumes exist now, with a sixth coming soon in Japan.
Does a fish-out-of-water story hit differently when the fish brings her own magic to the situation? And what would make you tune in—a cozy island setting, or watching someone realise they’ve dramatically miscalculated their destination?
