The legendary tennis anime Spokon returns after almost a decade of absence. It was actually announced recently The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Championship, new series to appear on Takeshi Konomi’s manga in 2022. Ryoma Echizen and his bat return, here they are in the thumbnails!
On the occasion of the recent Jump Festa 2022, on the series’s official Twitter account, some new official pictures of The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup shows Ryoma Echizen’s return to the field.
This time the historical protagonist returns to an international level playing field: the U17 world championship. As you can see from the four pictures shared with fans, Ryoma he will face national delegations from other countries, including representatives of the United States of America. In addition, there is currently no telling whether this new anime will in any way tie in with the events of the manga or tell an original story instead.
Takeshi Konomi’s Prince of Tennis was released on Shueisha’s weekly shonen jump from 1999 to 2008 one of the magazine’s most successful spokons. Of the forty-two tankobons released, an anime series, OVAs, and a Netflix live-action series were taken.
U-17 World Cup is a production MSC x Studio Kai. Keiichiro Kawaguchi, who worked on Hunter x Hunter -The Last Mission-, is the director of the series, while Mitsutaka Hirota, Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS is the supervisor. Other big names working on the series include composer Chihiro Tamaki and character designer Akiharu Ishii, who worked on Digimon Adventure Tri: Coexistence and Ghost in the Shell, respectively.
