Japan’s latest power struggle has a release date — and it’s bringing serious firepower.
Amazon Prime Video confirmed this week that Nippon Sangoku will premiere globally on April fifth, across more than two hundred territories. The platform secured worldwide exclusivity, marking another significant play in the streaming anime space.
The announcement arrived with a second trailer and a striking visual: protagonist Aoteru Misumi positioned against a golden map of the Japanese archipelago. The footage also debuted the opening theme, “Hidane” (Flash Point), performed by Tatsuya Kitani.
Behind the Production
Studio Kafka leads the animation — the same team behind The Ancient Magus’ Bride. Kazuaki Terasawa directs, with Takahiko Abiru handling character designs. Kevin Penkin, the award-winning composer behind Made in Abyss and The Apothecary Diaries, scores the soundtrack.

The Premise
Set in a near-future Japan fractured by natural disasters, nuclear conflict, and institutional decay, the nation has splintered into three rival states. Aoteru Misumi, a low-ranking bureaucrat with no combat ability, pursues reunification through intellect and political maneuvering rather than force.
